Numerical analysis of electrodeposited nickel coating in multistage drawing processes
Article Abstract:
The elastic-plastic finite element method of a dynamic explicit algorithm was used to simulate the deep drawing processes of nickel coating electrodeposited on a steel substrate to form an advanced battery shell. The result showed that the nickel coating deforms similarly to the steel substrate, and the thickness variation rule of the nickel coating is consistent with that of the steel substrate, but in the entire drawing process, the substrate bore the main load and the coating bore deformation.

Strip yield analysis on coalescence of plastic zones for multiple cracks in a riveted stiffened sheet
Article Abstract:
A strip yield model was used to calculate for multiple cracks in a riveted stiffened sheet based on the coalescence conditions of plastic zones. The multiple cracks and their plastic zones were treated as a fictitious crack and algebraic equations were formulated on compatibility of displacements, zero displacement at the coalesced points of plastic zones and no stress singularity at the fictitious crack tips. Numerical results were presented for two cracks in a sheet with and without stiffeners.

Experimental and numerical evaluation of crack arresting capability due to a dimple
Article Abstract:
Crack arresting capability is experimentally examined using center cracked tension specimens and varying the placement of the dimple ahead of the crack tip. It is indicated that the dimple has a benefit only to the repair case after the crack is initiated.
