Study finding perchlorate in fertilizer rattles industry
Article Abstract:
Perchlorate concentrations in common garden fertilizers have been found to range from 0.15% to 0.84% by weight, but the fertilizer industry strongly disputes this finding. Perchlorate, which is not currently regulated, has been found to affect the thyroid and the production of thyroid hormones. The EPA recommends that drinking water have perchlorate limits ranging from 4 to 18 ppb.
