High-resolution imaging of the self-assembly of organic monolayers
Article Abstract:
Research using the scanning tunneling microscope has allowed real-time imaging of the methods of self-assembly of alkanethiol monolayers on gold surfaces. The stages in the process are a lattice-gas phase followed by a low-density solid phase and a higher-density solid phase.

Molecular trees: a new branch of chemistry
Article Abstract:
Researchers are using the concept of self-assembly to fabricate nanoscale materials. One promising approach to the synthesis of dendrimers uses equilibrium-controlled self-assembly to produce six wedge-shaped molecules with highly branched tails.
