New agricultural policy emerges from 1993 flood
Article Abstract:
The 1995 Farm Bill removes the pressure on the federal budget by devising improved strategies to deal with flooding in the wake the disastrous 1993 flood. The new agricultural policy proposes the conversion of farmlands susceptible to flooding into wetlands. The bill also authorizes funds to purchase floodplain easements from farmers and their rights to federal disaster aids and crop loans. The new policy aims is to cut down on federal outlays to agriculture, reduce the cost of future disasters, and augment the development of wetlands.

Food vs. environment: Europe's green fields
Article Abstract:
The importance of farmers in maintaining the ecological system has been recognized by the European Community. Several policies are being implemented to enable European farmers to achieve ecological and sustainable agricultural growth. Scarce land and intensive agriculture has prompted the farmers to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides to boost profitability. Additional measures should be incorporated in the present policy to discourage the farmers from resorting to anti-environmental methods.
