Tailoring the microstructure of a metal-reinforced ceramic matrix composite
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that in the alumina matrix, prepared by using fine and coarse molybdenum particles, the toughness is directly related to the amount of molybdenum metal and the bridging stress is higher with coarse particles. Data suggest that the best microstructure is achieved when the metal particle size is more than 5 micrometer.

The deformation habits of compressed open-cell solid foams
Article Abstract:
Research elucidates the nature of the inhomogeneous distributions of local stretch in compressed open-cell solid foams. Data indicate that such deformations are due to the nonconvexity of the underlying energetics in the form of parallel strata type arrangement of the low- and high-density phases.
