The first tier suppliers are required to manage the QS-9000 quality standards, jointly introduced by Chrysler, General Motors and Ford. QS-9000 stands for achieving standardization in component supply and signifies the emergence of numerous suppliers. Rapid globalization and structural changes in the automobile industry call for reorganisation of the vehicle manufacturing companies.

Automobile manufacturer Ford has launched an automotive parts testing facility at Dunton Engineering Centre, Essex, England. The facility cost five million pounds sterling to build. It has three test chambers set up to improve product development processes in automobile design. The effects of vibration, sunlight, noise and temperature are established before mass production.
