The changing landscape of the chlorine debate
Article Abstract:
Growing concern on human health and ecological effects and emerging market forces are putting the chlorine debate into a new perspective. While the chlorine industry cites the relative risks and benefits of chlorinated organic compounds, environmental groups are focusing their efforts on the most environmentally persistent compounds. Scientists, for their part, have yet to reach a consensus on the severity and importance of hypotheses or effects associated with these products. Regulators, on the other hand, are encountering difficulty in assessing their risks and benefits to be able to formulate clear-cut policies on the issue.
