The fog of war: can high-tech sensors fight the insurgency in Iraq?

The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is pushing to deploy a ground based carbon dioxide laser designed to identify an enemy sniper by measuring movements of dust particles in air. This laser will be useful to the US soldiers in Iraq to combat Iraqi insurgents.

Asthma is increasing in the US, particularly in children in poor urban areas. The multiple risk factors linked to the disease make the reasons for the rise difficult to determine, but lifestyle changes and outdoor air pollutants are likely factors.
