Protection of the rain forests is crucial to ensuring the survival of the Costa Rican caterpillar population. Next to beetles, caterpillars are the most diverse order of animals on the planet, and play key roles in supporting complex ecological functions. Caterpillars also provide important information on species adaptation to environmental changes.

Islands: paradise or parasites?
Article Abstract:
Unregulated development on an island is destined to destroy the very island environment that attracts residents and tourists. It is not necessary to have outlet malls or massive resort/casino complexes on islands, when one has the ever-changing vista of the sea meeting the land, tropical sunsets and beautiful weather.

Treasure islands
Article Abstract:
Naturalists gathered specimens in the Kuril Islands in Japan and Russia to study the plant and animal components of the different islands in the archipelago. The specimens will be subjected to a computerized inventory that will provide an insight into the biodiversity of the Kuril islands.
