The myth of unlimited water
Article Abstract:
The year 2003 has been designated as the International Year of Freshwater, in an attempt to point out the fact that about 33% of the world's human population suffers from a shortage of fresh water. But in Canada, fresh water is taken for granted, and pollution and introducedspecies threaten ecosystems such as those of the Great Lakes. Canada needs laws to protect fresh water, the destruction of which is far more of a threat than terrorism.

Where is our fresh water?
Article Abstract:
Canada has about 20% of the world's fresh water supply, included in lakes, rivers, snow, ice and groundwater, and Canada accounts for about 50% of the world's lakes. Water in glaciers, snowpacks and groundwater is considered fossil water, and might take 10,000 years to recharge. About 60% of the water in Canada drains to the north, but 90% of the Canadian population is within 300 km of the country's southern border.

The wonder of water
Article Abstract:
Water is nature's most magnificent creation, the basis for all life that drives the global climate, making life on the land possible and also plays a crucial role in the development of civilization. When liquid water freezes, becoming solid ice, it expands and becomes less dense, causing the solid H2O to float in liquid H2O, but if ice were denser than liquid water it would sink.
