Information technology and telecommunications are becoming crucial components of modern road transport systems with the advent of advanced transport telematics (ATT). ATT promises to improve safety and enhance efficiency of all transport modes, while minimizing damage to the environment. It is aimed at upgrading road infrastructure and promoting alternative modes of transport. Among the many applications of ATT are 'intelligent' traffic lights, dynamic information such as parking availability and electronic toll payment.
