Trenchless repair keeps sewage and business flowing
Article Abstract:
Framingham, MA used a trenchless repair method to replace its underground clay sewage pipes. The pipes were deteriorating due to corrosion and old age and their location beneath the city's busy streets made relining techniques a cost-effective alternative to traditional pipe replacement. Earthline Corp used U-liner, a high-density polyethylene process and worked at night to reduce traffic disruption. The project entailed inserting, inflating and curing the liner section and cutting out caps for service connections. The sewage flow may improve despite the liner's reduction of the pipe's usable section.

Dallas goes trenchless
Article Abstract:
Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) made use of microtunneling techniques to minimize operational disruptions during their construction projects. The Dallas Convention Center expansion and the farmer's market development projects involved the relocation and the extension of underground sanitary water mains. Through microtunneling, the workers finished the projects ahead of schedule and reduced public inconvenience. DWU officials recommend that engineers should explore available methods for rehabilitation projects and catalog trenchless schemes to come up with the most cost-effective solution.

Trenchless transformation
Article Abstract:
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority's repair project on one its major sewer pipelines incorporates a cured-in-place liner system. A resin-impregnated, inverted liner tube is inserted into the sewer pipeline and subsequently sealed onto the walls of the pipeline.
