Tropospheric ozone research plan set for North America
Article Abstract:
The North American Research Strategy for Tropospheric Ozone (NARSTO), a framework for coordinating research activities concerning the sources, formation and transport of tropospheric ozone across North America, has been approved by representatives from Mexico and the US at meeting held on Feb. 13, 1995. NARSTO will focus on four major areas, namely emission sources, monitoring networks and analytical methods, chemical and meteorological modeling, and data analysis and interpretation and assessment. The research plan, however, will not dismantle existing research programs but will create an international standard that will guide the internal programs of its members.

Water monitoring strategy begun
Article Abstract:
Companies and non-government organizations have expressed their support to the efforts of the Intergovernmental Task Force on Monitoring Water Quality (ITFM), a group established by the government to coordinate water-monitoring programs and recommend measures to improve water quality. A primary thrust of the agency is developing a standardized method of collecting and reporting data for all programs so that neighboring states can examine each other's water profile. ITFM also plans to develop water quality databases which will contain all water quality monitoring data.
