Understanding nucleic acids using synthetic chemistry
Article Abstract:
The work done in the laboratories that use synthetic, physical organic, and biological chemistry to understand the roles played by the nucleobases, sugars, and phosphates of DNA in the molecular recognition process central to genetics is described. The use of ribose reflects prebiotic processes in the presence of borate-containing minerals, which stabilize ribose formed from simple organic precursors.

Conformationally constrained PNA analogues: Structural evolution toward DNA/RNA binding selectivity
Article Abstract:
Structural preorganization of the backbone to hybridization-competent conformations to impart binding selectivity is presented. This strategy has allowed to design locked PNAs to achieve specific hybridization with DNA or RNA with aims to increase the binding strength without losing the binding specificity.

Structural basis of single-stranded RNA recognition
Article Abstract:
RNA is a mediator of genetic information and plays essential roles in splicing and translation. The important principles and distinct features of single-stranded RNA recognition by conserved RNA binding domains are discussed.
