Up to speed
Article Abstract:
An attempt to break the British land speed record is to be made by Philip Storey, whose car is made from steel and glass fibre. The hybrid rocket incorporates two cylinders of compressed gas, and the main challenge will be for the vehicle and driver to cope with hugh acceleration loads imposed during the run. It will be driven by a women, as research suggests that female pilots are able to withstand higher G-loads than male pilots.

Out of the blue
Article Abstract:
Nigel Irens Design's Cable and Wireless Adventurer motor yacht has successfully circumnavigated the world on Jul 3, 1998 in 74 days and, thus, broke the record set by US nuclear submarine USS Triton of 83 days 30 years ago. This feat was realized through the yacht's distinct trimaran design, which enhanced overall boat overall boat performance by reducing water contact and enabling it to cut through water more efficiently.
