VOC accumulation and pore filling in unsaturated porous media
Article Abstract:
Uptake of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in low porous media under water unsaturated conditions is most efficient in the air and aqueous phases, with a small fraction at the air-water interphase. Evidence for the distribution and accumulation of VOCs are provided by a study investigating VOC sorption and desorption from glass beads in water-saturated and water-unsaturated conditions. Results also revealed that accumulation of VOCs within pores is influenced by the presence of mesophores or microphores.

EXAFS study of the inner shell structure in copper(II) complexes with humic substances
Article Abstract:
An extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) study on copper (II) structures in humic substances shows that complexation sites are not likely to have carboxylic groups with furan rings. Results also show that complexes were shorter than those in water and salicylate compounds with the axial oxygens of the copper-oxygen pairs more tightly bound with the central cation. Moreover, inner shell distortion was found to be reduced by the contraction of the copper-oxygen distance.

Study of copper accumulation by the type I methanotroph Methylomicrobium albus BG8
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on copper accumulation in Methylomicrobium albus BG8 (M. albus BG8), a type I methanotroph. Experiments were performed at copper concentrations that were not toxic nor growth limiting, since observed physiological effects of copper on methanotrophs occur under such conditions. Results suggested that M. albus BG8 is not copper-limited in a majority of natural environments due to their efficient copper uptake systems.
