Improving the health of indigenous peoples provides benefits for their communities and the rest of the world. Areas of study in Earthwatch projects cover the relationship between stress and illness, elimination of parasitic diseases, prenatal care and protection from chemical pesticides. Tasks include hygiene education, interviews with expectant mothers and measurement of pesticide levels.

Global climate and environmental changes provide the key to future changes and potential problems, acting as early warning systems. Species and events that offer these clues include Rocky Mountain wildflowers, Icelandic glaciers, Russian lakes, and worldwide fossil records. Tasks in Earthwatch projects include excavation, water quality testing and tracking pollinators.
