Outcome of nursing home-acquired pneumonia: derivation and application of a practical model to predict 30 day mortality
Article Abstract:
Nursing-home-acquired-pneumonia (NHAP) outcomes have been studied from the perspective of developing and applying a practical model to predict 30-day mortality. A severity-of-NHAP model was derived from numerous episodes in various facilities and found to have reasonable discriminatory power in the group, but more validation is needed. It might be helpful to those making treatment/hospitalization decisions. Preinfection functional status is a basis for a reasonable estimate of severity and prognosis, but the model makes better estimates possible.
