Dementia diagnostic guidelines: methodologies, results, and implementation costs
Article Abstract:
Dementia diagnostic guidelines are discussed relative to methodologies, results, and implementation costs. Diagnostic recommendations should be approached in a systematic way to get more consistency in guidelines and consensus statements. Much variability in recommendations and estimated costs exists with use of the current system

Neuroimaging in the dementia assessment: Is it necessary?
Article Abstract:
Necessity for neuroimaging, computerized tomography (CT) scans or MRI, in the routine dementia assessment is considered. Neuroimaging can contribute in some important ways to diagnosis and management of dementia and should be used. Ischemic brain injury is often unrecognized and appears in high frequency in those with dementia. As new methods become available, CT and MRI may become obsolete, and more useful information may be available. Ongoing study is needed.

Identifying patterns of disruptive behavior in long-term care residents
Article Abstract:
It appears that there are patterns in disruptive behaviors (DBs) in long-term care patients, information that would be helpful in planning interventions early in the behavior seuqnce. Patterns of disruptive behavior in 240 long-term care residents have been studied to determine timing, frequency, and patterns. Forty-five operationalized DBs were studied in eight long-term care units and one acute-admission unit all in a large Veterans Administration Medical Center.
