Effects of environmental support and strategy training on older adults' use of context
Article Abstract:
Age-related cognitive differences, which may be due in part to difficulties using task-relevant context, can be reduced by directed strategy training to extended practice. Two studies evaluating different methods of increasing older adults' use of context suggests that age differences in the use of context is not due to reduced access to cue information, direct strategy training made older adults' context processing performance more like that of young adults.

Short-term visual recognition and temporal order memory are both well-preserved in aging
Article Abstract:
Young and older adults were asked to identify the serial position that a probe item had occupied in a study set, or to judge that the probe was novel in order to compare the impact of aging on short-term recognition and temporal order memory. Results show that short-term visual temporal order memory is well-preserved in normal aging, and when temporal errors do occur, they arise from similar causes for young and older people.

Visual word recognition without central attention: Evidence for greater automaticity with advancing age
Article Abstract:
A study examined under what conditions people can recognize words when central attention is devoted to another task. It was observed that the processing advantage appears to be restricted to lexical processes and that greater lexical processing leads to greater automaticity, allowing older adults to more efficiently perform this stage in parallel with another task.
