Measures of postural stability are not predictors of recovery from large postural disturbances in health older adults
Article Abstract:
Research into the relationship between postural steadiness and balance recovery ability in aged adults is presented. Results indicate balance recovery is independent from postural steadiness and therefore not a predictor of those who might suffer from falls.

The sex and age of older adults influence the outcome of induced trips
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that most healthy elderly people do not fall as a result of a trip. Older women aged under 70 are over three times more likely to fall than the more elderly women, although in studies women were found to be over four times more likely to fall following a trip than men. Age was not found to be an influential factor in the falling activities of men. Gait was virtually unaffected by the presence of a safety harness.

Gait characteristics as risk factors for falling from trips induced in older adults
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the characteristics of trip-related falls in the elderly population, focusing on how gait characteristics increase the risk of falling after a trip. By inducing trips in healthy, elderly adults, the researchers suggest that step time and length are factors affecting the likelihood of falling.
