Demographic research on newspaper readership
Article Abstract:
This article examines how demographic research affects decision making in journalism, focusing on how aging trends will effect readership. The author suggests that research techniques have changed, concentrating on how media is used rather than simple head counts, revealing that older readers are the best news consumers; issues facing newpapers include how to keep core older consumers, how to let those readers know the paper cares about them, and how to handle the paradox of advertisers marketing to target 18-year-olds with older readers.
