How do marriage market conditions affect entrance into cohabitation vs. marriage?
Article Abstract:
The contextual data at the Labor Market Area (LMA) level linked to the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) is used to extend the marriage market arguments to the formation of both cohabiting and marital unions. The results have shown that as the sex ratio increases, the odds of marriage over either remaining single or cohabiting increases, suggesting the cohabitation and marriage are not substitutable, but its does not explain African American-white American differences in union formation.

The relationship between life course events and union formation
Article Abstract:
The relationship between the union formation and the life course events, such as education, employment, fertility, prior union transitions and residential factors, are examined. Life course events in every domain are related to both cohabitation and marriage, with residential changes proving very important, and the experience of other events near formation has provided some clues to why the union formed and has implications for future outcome and stability.

Family dynamics through childhood: A sibling model of behavior problems
Article Abstract:
The effects of structural changes in the family and parenting on child behavior problems in middle childhood are investigated based on the theories of the life course and child development. The results have supported the early childhood exposure hypothesis applied to poverty, a parenting hypothesis applied to mother's physical punishment, and a family selection hypothesis applied to positive parenting, father's time and cultural activities.
