How open source software works: "free" user-to-user assistance
Article Abstract:
The manner in which the task of field support is organized in the case of Apache web server software is explored, giving the reason of some motivation to provide service gratis to others. The finding considerably reduces the puzzle of why information providers are willing to perform this task for free.
