Nonstandard work schedules: Employer- and employee-driven flexibility in retail jobs
Article Abstract:
Data based on interviews with human resource (HR) manager and recruited participants were collected as part of the Study of Work-Child Care Fit (SWCCF) to examine how workplace factors shape the child caregiving and family experiences of low-income working mothers. The findings suggest that more attention in policy should be devoted to mitigate the effects of nonstandard schedules through broader social policy changes that could help families cope with economic instabilities, direct modifications of employer practices or through reforms of the child-care sector.

Neighborhoods, family, and substance use: Comparisons of the relations across racial and ethnic groups
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the substance use among adolescents and its relation to several risk and protective factors derived from two ecological contexts such as the neighborhood and the family. The findings suggest many common correlates and processes of substance use for adolescents, regardless of race or ethnicity hence better understanding of the association among factors that influence substance use across racial and ethnic subgroups could help effectively target preventive interventions for different groups.
