Perceived organizational support
Article Abstract:
The results of two research studies are discussed that support the following theories: (1) individuals within organizations form common beliefs as to the extent to which their contributions are valued by the organization as a whole, (2) positive organizational support can reduce the absenteeism of individuals within an organization, and (3) the stronger the exchange ideology of the individual, the more closely correlated are perceptions of support and reduced absenteeism. Perceived organizational support is also shown to be directly related to individuals' belief that efforts to meet organizational goals are rewarded by the organization. Individuals support organizations when they perceive that the organizations are actively supporting them.

Conflict and organizational commitments
Article Abstract:
A sample of 124 mental health professionals are studied to determine the antecedents of organizational commitment. Conflicts are examined that affect organizational commitment, and it is shown that perceived conflicts between managers' goals and individuals' goals are associated with organizational commitment. The individuals whose commitments coincided with those of upper levels of management demonstrate the highest level of organizational commitment.
