Romantic irony and the modern lyric: Szondi on Hofmannsthal
Article Abstract:
Peter Szondi's interpretation of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's poetry in his essay "Lyric and Lyric Drama in Hofmannsthal's Early Work" concentrates on the place of the lyric in the poet's early work. An exploration of the reasons for Szondi's reference to the theory of romantic irony in the essay is presented.
