Royalties, evolving patent rights, and the value of innovation
Article Abstract:
The value of an innovation, a complex and multifaceted subject can change over time to the innovator particularly when a proven-valid-and-infringed patent is applicable to the invention with a reasonable royalty rate licensing others to use the patented invention. Implications of winning patent infringement litigation awards providing incentives to innovate are discussed.

Citations, family size, opposition and the value of patent rights
Article Abstract:
The estimates of the values of patents rights from the survey of patent-holders with a set of indicator variables is combined in order to model the value of patents. The results suggest that the number of references to the patents as well as the citations a patent receive are positively related to its value.

Based on the usage of patented intellectual property in various applications, the value of patent is determined. This value is periodically re-evaluated based on the new patents in the markets. The patent valuation factors are discussed.
