Article Abstract:
Rodgers (Nashville, Tennessee) selected the IBM System-38 computer system to manage data processing for its Albuquerque, New Mexico subsidiary, KNC Construction Company. A few months after the S-38 was installed, it had customized applications for payroll, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, equipment analysis, fixed assets, notes payable, and project analysis. The system's data base management system allows employees to update a complete file or portions of it, provides an equipment analysis program, and helps compare forecasted expenses during a project to actual expenditures, through the project analysis feature.

This narrative reports on original research into the primary variables affecting success or failure of doctoral candidates. It describes a study that found a previously overlooked variable, condition of one's car, may be a critical factor in doctoral success. Also analyzed in this article (which was submitted by a friend of the researcher) are the stepwise multiple regression procedure utilized and long-term implications of the study. Strange attraction
Article Abstract:
Two of the latest magnetic materials have been installed in Finish Thompson's new magnetic drive pump and Heidenhain's new modular non-contact rotary encoder. Finish Thompson's magnetic drive pump uses rare earth magnets that can reduce magnetic assembly weights to about 0.25 kg from 1.5 kg. On the other hand, Heidenhain engineers used a new hard magnetic material for their encoder which maintains its magnetic flux at rotating speeds of 24,000 rpm.
