What is the value of a human life? Patti Mullins spends her time forcing us to confront our prejudices against the disabled
Article Abstract:
Lawyer Patti Mullins is devoting her career to strengthening the legal protection of the disabled against bias and discrimination. Aside from her work as a family practice attorney, Mullins is also executive director of Access International Inc, which organizes support for the disabled on such issues as civil rights, euthanasia and the right to refuse treatment. Mullins opposes euthanasia on the grounds that it may lead to the killing of the disabled. Mullins hopes that the Americans with Disabilities Act will reverse society's unfair attitudes toward the handicapped.

The politics of race
Article Abstract:
Stephen Carter, tenured professor at the Yale Law School and author of 'Reflections of an Affirmative Action Baby,' believes that blacks should not feel stigmatized by having received a boost in their careers as a result of affirmative action but that there should come a point when people keep succeeding in their careers by working hard. He believes that racism is still alive but that it will decrease over time. He questions the validity of pigeonholing black people by statements that label them.
