Zygmunt Bauman published books that described a postmodern turn in society, ethics, theory, culture, and politics. Article Abstract:
Zygmunt Bauman's work for sociological theory and intellectual debate in Germany is signifiant. It emphasizes the tension between the Holocaust and the German 'Sonderweg' thesis. Bauman's neglect of democratic alternatives within American intellectual and political traditions must be considered. He emphasized pre-societal sources of morality in his ethics.
