The mighty restrained
Article Abstract:
The Competition Act 1998 came into effect in the UK on Mar 1, 2000. This legislation introduces two basic prohibitions. These are a prohibition on anti-competitive agreements, known as the Chapter 1 prohibition, and a prohibition on the abuse of a dominant market position, known as the Chapter II prohibition. The Director General of Fair Trading will be empowered to enforce these prohibitions, and may levy fines on firms deemed to have infringed the Act. In practice, it will be unusual for restrictions and obligations in land agreements to contravene the Competition Act 1998.
