Maximal aerobic power, lactate threshold, and running performance in master athletes
Article Abstract:
This study investigates the effects of lactate threshold, age, maximal aerobic capacity, and gender on the performance of older runners. Results indicate that running performance significantly declined with age and maximal aerobic power was a better predictor of performance than lactate threshold in both groups.

A longitudinal assessment of change in VO(sub)2max and maximal heart rate in master athletes
Article Abstract:
The longitudinal change in maximum oxygen uptake and maximal heart rate decline at a similar rate in male and female athletes. Data show that maintenance of lean body mass and maximum oxygen uptake are associated in men athletes, whereas in women athletes, the association is with estrogen replacement therapy.

Eccentric muscle action increases site-specific osteogenic response
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the contribution of load magnitude from muscle action on the site-specific osteogenic response suggests that eccentric muscle training is more osteogenic than concentric muscle training and that eccentric training is more efficent by attaining higher force production with lower integrated electromyography.
