A tale of two accidents
Article Abstract:
Two diving accidents were discussed which emphasize the importance of oxygen in any diving emergency procedure. Specifically, oxygen is highly valuable during decompression sickness, air embolism or any breathing difficulty encountered as a result of diving. In the first case presented, the injured diver was successfully revived after a boat crew immediately administered oxygen and treated him for shock. In the second case presented, the diver had an air embolism injury after rescuers failed to immediately provide proper first aid, including administration of oxygen.

A training-dive tragedy
Article Abstract:
Anyone planning to enrol in a dive school should check the insurance and qualification of the facility, instructors, and the diving association to avoid untoward incidents. Specific equipment and training, which are required for various diving activities and skills, should be available and administered only by prepared and trained divers. Queries should be made to raise understanding of instructional or supervised dives that suggests violations in their safety diving practices. Any diver could refuse to continue or participate in any dive at any time.

A shallow-water tragedy
Article Abstract:
A diving accident provides lessons on diving and coping with heavy surf. A married couple, who learned to dive locally, went diving in a remote cove. The wife then found her husband floating on the surface of the water unconscious and not breathing after they were caught by a large wave. The husband died and the wife sued the manufacturer of the husband's BC. The case was settled out of court. Among the lessons from the accident are that divers should dive at locations suited to their experience and plan for emergencies when diving in remote areas.
