Albert takes on Otto: A circumnavigating solo sailor has his windvane duke it out with his autopilot to see which reels off the miles more rapidly
Article Abstract:
In the year 1955, Tony Gooch and his wife, Coryn bought a 42-foot German-built aluminum sloop named Taonui, which had a long keel, tiller steering and the windvane, which they affectionately called Albert. Though they had great regard for Albert they felt that the upgraded Simrad autopilot nicknamed Otto would steer a straighten course than Albert and yield longer daily runs.
