After having lowered his handicap to a personal best of three by shooting the best round of his life, an amateur golfer attempts to qualify for the 1996 US Amateur Championship. During his attempt to capture one of the five qualifying spots, his game falters and he ends up failing miserably.

Spain has high-quality hotels and very good golf courses, but the Ryder Cup should not be held in Costa del Sol, Spain. Most of the players, especially those who are not rich or famous, will have a 1 1/2-hour commute from their lodging area to the golf course.
