America's Cup competition returns to England (sort of)

The America's Cup sailing competition began in Cowes, England, in 1851 and despite the English never having won the race a special commemorative race is to be held in 2001. The original race will be reenacted around the island.

The 150th America's Cup Jubilee took place in Cowes, England, in Aug 2001. The event attracted many celebrities, including Olin Stephens, whose designs were very influential in the Cup between 1937 and 1980.
