Bloat, or gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), is a condition that results in a dog's sudden death if not treated immediately. More common in large rather than small dogs, the illness causes the stomach to fill with air, disrupting circulation, damaging stomach tissue and resulting in shock and death.
