Removing a boat's old bottom paint requires a lot of work. Three options in doing it are sanding or scraping, sandblasting and the use of chemicals. The third option appears to be the best. Peel Away Marine Strip II, Interprotect Epoxy and Micron CSC Extra are recommended products for the job.

Copper-based antifouling paints for boat bottoms meet current environmental regulations. Applying several coats or using a resin-and-copper coating increases the life of the protection. The Hulltrasonic system uses transducers to discourage barnacle growth.
