Skeletal muscle hypertrophy after chronic restriction of venous blood flow in rats
Article Abstract:
An animal model was developed in which several veins from hindlimb muscles of the rat are surgically crush-occluded, in order to investigate the effects of blood flow on muscular size at either cellular or subcellular level. It is concluded that changes in muscle blood flow might affect the muscular size through actions of heat shock protein-72, myostatin, and nitric oxide synthase-1.

Electromyostimulation training effects on neutral drive and muscle architecture
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to investigate the effect of 4 and 8 wk of electromyostimulation (EMS) training on both muscular and neural adaptations of the knee extensor muscles. It is concluded that the voluntary torque gains obtained after EMS training could be attributed to both muscular and neural adaptations and both changes selectively involved the monoarticular vastii muscles.
