For the Conch Republic Cup in May 2003, hosted by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, 15 yachts sailed from Key West, Florida to Havana, Cuba and each boat and its crew had license from the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). But still the crew was ordered off their boats and all documents seized by government agents citing alleged breach of regulations, but was done to deter people from going to Cuba.

Each year the British Virgin Islands resort invites ten prosailors to skipper its fleet of Freedom 30s in a unique match-racing event, with guests at the resort provided as crew. The racing is close, and although it is a fun event, none of the teams want to lose.

Heaving-to is a simple maneuver that can take the sting out of bad weather or just give the required rest when the crew needs it most. The easiest way to heave-to is to tack the boat without letting the jibsheet go.
