Conquering Dakar
Article Abstract:
A motorcycle racer's participation in the 1997 Dakar Rally is described. The fifteen-day, 5,700-mile rally covers Senegal, Mali, Nigeria and Mauritania. The author was a member of Danny LaPorte's Pro-Grip/KTM team. The rally involved 120 other motorcycles, 110 cars, 50 trucks, seven helicopters, 100 officials and 35 doctors.

Hanging it out in Hangtown
Article Abstract:
A Cycling World editor recalls his experiences while competing in the Hangtown motorcross competitions in Southern California. During the competitions he met with several motorcycle racing legends and gained new insights into the challenges faced by professional racers.

Incas Rally
Article Abstract:
A motorcycle racer's participation in the 800-mile Incas Rally in Peru is described. The author used a 1997 Kawasaki KLX300 with a stock four-stroke engine that will take in the low-quality Peruvian gas without causing problems. The author and his partner won the event.
