Traditional bass-fishing wisdom has been to fish deep, cool waters in hot summer months, but bass can be found in shallow tributary heads in any temperature, as long as their are plenty of bait fish. Small spinnerbaits and crankbaits that mimic the bait fish should be used.

Spin-fishing with light lines is often effective in catching timid bass and is useful in clear lakes where large lures are often ignored by bass. Light lines are less visible, allow the lure to sink faster, and provide better control than heavier lines.
