Article Abstract:
Thousands of hunters have applied for 10 Kentucky and 30 Pennsylvania elk hunting licenses, a result of a successful program of releases of Rocky Mountain elk. However, some of the transplants seem so tame that public pressure against the licenses nearly stopped the hunt.

Pennsylvania Game Commission's Dr. Gary Alt is proposing to make changes to the hunting season to manage the state's whitetail deer population more effectively. The suggestion is to move the hunting season for does from December to October.

Landowners in Idaho have decided to ban sportsmen from hunting on their land as a protest against the actions of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, who allowed too many mule deer to be hunted in the 1999 season.
