Effects of aerobic training on gene expression in skeletal muscle of elderly men
Article Abstract:
The effects of 3 months of training on global gene expression in skeletal muscle of healthy elderly men were examined to better characterize the pathways that differentiate the trained from the sedentary state. The set of 397 genes that includes the upregulated energy pathways and the downregulated protein catabolism genes represents the transcriptional response of the skeletal muscle in the trained state, and many of the genes are likely to be mediators of the beneficial effects of physical activity on health and fitness.

Gender differences in perceived exertion during fatiguing knee extensions
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the gender differences in the perceived exertion response and strength and the different approaches of modeling the perceived exertion response during fatiguing knee-extension exercise. The study showed that modeling the perceived exertion response had no differences between men and women and men were able to lift a greater amount of mass during a single-leg, knee-extension exercise than women when corrected for body mass.
