A study of 42 high cholesterol patients suggests that a regular garlic intake may be effective in lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Each subject in the study ingested daily 300 mg tablets of alliin, the active ingredient of garlic, and LDL cholesterol fell by 11 percent on average.

A new study of salt intake through diet indicates that as much as 77% of it may come from processed foods and is not added on during cooking or at the table. Using more discretion in your food choices is more important than controlling added salt in reducing overall intake.
