Professional golfer John Cook spent the seven years before 1989 playing with an undiagnosed broken right hand. An operation improved his game and Cook has found a new appreciation for family life, an improved attitude and an interest in physical fitness.

Ted Rhodes

Ted Rhodes had a brilliant golf career in the 1940s and 1950s, winning more than 150 tournaments but achieving little recognition outside the black golf community. The Professional Golfers' Association rules barred African American members until 1961.
