Article Abstract:
A metric map overprinted with a Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid, issued by the USGS, was not successful because of people's aversion to the metric system. However, full-line UTM grids are becoming popular once again. The extrapolation process is described.

Mechanical engineer Tim Leatherman invented a fold-up multi-tool that combined pliers, an awl, knife blade, screwdrivers and a ruler. Variations of these tools are now made by other manufacturers, and the Survival Tool is considered the best. Several are described.

The snowshoe advantage

Snowshoes are easier to maintain and use than cross-country skis, and they allow the winter hunter to go almost anywhere. Good snowshoes range in price from $100 to over $150, with bindings costing at least an additional $60.
