Giants of the land
Article Abstract:
The largest and tallest living things are trees. Dinosaurs once roamed groves of these trees in Europe, Asia and North America, but the awe-inspiring trees have been reduced to a narrow range along the California coast and the slopes of the southern Sierra.

Giants of the earth
Article Abstract:
Whale watching opportunities exist on both US coasts and in Hawaii. There are also several places to see giant sequoias and redwoods in California. Though these are better known, a fungus found in southwestern Washington may be the largest living thing.

Whales, the largest animals ever thought to exist, have inhabited the oceans for 45 million years. Thought to have been hunted as early as 18,000 years ago, some species have been driven nearly to extinction. Whale watching has become a major industry.
