The slim, minnow-imitating plugs are the most effective spinning lures for large trout in streams and rivers all over America. Some techniques, which would help anglers in overcoming some special problems they face, in casting and retrieving such type of lures are suggested.

When less is more

Fly fishers may have to use ultralight tackle when catching large trout that eat small insects. The 1-, 2-, and 3-weight fly lines reduce line splash, reduce surface disturbance and allow fishers to use shorter leaders. Ultralight tackle does not cast well on windy days.
